Announcement - Veldhoven, The Netherlands, December 12, 2024
ASML will provide significant financial support to four new construction projects that in total will deliver 1,085 affordable homes in Veldhoven, Eindhoven and Helmond. ASML is working together with three housing associations – Woonbedrijf, Trudo and Woonpartners – to realize the housing projects Djept (Veldhoven), Sierlijke Dames and INCK (Eindhoven) and Zuidrand (Helmond). The associated municipalities have been closely involved in the selection of these projects. The homes are for the larger part intended for people who are dependent on social housing – not for ASML employees.
The ASML affordable housing program is a social initiative that aims at expanding the supply of affordable homes (social rent and affordable mid-rent) for the longer term in the Brainport Eindhoven region. ASML will only step in if a project becomes loss-making, in order to help housing associations overcome the threshold to actually realize the project. The housing projects are initiated by housing associations and non-profit organizations that are responsible for the development, construction and allocation of (social) housing in the project. ASML will only contribute financially.
The ASML affordable housing program is part of the broader sustainability strategy, through which ASML aims to also contribute to themes with social relevance. Financial support for these housing projects helps ASML to implement this strategy and at the same time contributes to sustainable growth for the high-tech sector. The ambition of ASML is to support construction of 25,000 affordable homes by 2040, which means an average of 1,500 homes per year. With this, the company aims to make an important contribution to solving the shortage of affordable housing in the region.
“We are proud to announce our next steps in addressing the urgent need for affordable housing in the Brainport region. This year, we will invest in a total of six projects – including the four listed below, along with TAC Living and Springplank – resulting in approximately 1,500 new homes. This initiative highlights our belief that collaboration is one of the key strengths of the Brainport region. We remain committed to investing in social facilities to ensure that everyone can share in the success of the high-tech sector in Brainport,” says Frieda Rikkers, ASML program manager for Society and Community Engagement.
Project 1 – Djept in Veldhoven
Djept is a joint initiative of the municipality of Veldhoven, Woonbedrijf and Stayinc. and is being built in Veldhoven. The project consists of nine apartment buildings in the green. The total construction includes 305 homes, the vast majority of which are affordable rental apartments. The financial contribution of ASML to Woonbedrijf makes the entire project feasible. All of Woonbedrijf's apartments meet the definition of affordable housing, as they are 126 social rental homes (rent up to €880) and 56 mid-range rental homes (rent up to €1,123). Construction is planned for the first quarter of 2025. The first homes are expected to be ready by the end of 2026.
Project 2 – Zuidrand in Helmond
The Zuidrand project – an initiative of Woonpartners – is being executed in the center of Helmond. In total, there will be 104 affordable apartments, of which 37 social rental homes and 67 mid-range rental apartments. Preparatory work is in full swing. Construction work will start in March 2025, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The municipality of Helmond has indicated that this project is a top priority.
Project 3 – Sierlijke Dames in Eindhoven
Sierlijke Dames is a joint initiative of Trudo and Land 's-Heeren and is being built in Eindhoven at Strijp-S. The project consists of two residential towers, with a total of 276 apartments, with at least 70% in the category of affordable housing. In line with ASML, the municipality of Eindhoven is also making a contribution. The start of construction is planned for mid-2025, and the project is expected to be completed in early 2029.
Project 4 INCK (Humperdincklaan) in Eindhoven
INCK (project Humperdincklaan) is an initiative of Woonbedrijf. Woonbedrijf coordinates the project and works together with Heijmans to develop the project. A total of 400 homes will be built, of which Woonbedrijf manages 180 social rental and 54 mid-range rental apartments. The remaining homes are owner-occupied homes, the vast majority of which are in the middle segment. This means that 85-90% of the total number of homes are in the affordable segment. The municipality of Eindhoven has been closely involved in selecting this project due to the high number of affordable homes, and will also make a financial contribution. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2027, and total construction work will take approximately two to three years.
