Introduction
ASML is an innovation leader in the semiconductor industry. We provide chipmakers with sophisticated hardware to achieve lithographic patterning of several nm-size microchip features. The unprecedented precision and accuracy of our tools would not be possible without highly advanced optical measurement systems. Therefore, ASML Research continuously explores novel methods to generate, manipulate, illuminate, and measure light at wavelengths across the electromagnetic spectrum.
Your Assignment
ASML Research offers various internship opportunities that involve either theoretical or experimental investigation on optical systems, critical for the future of ASML. You will join a collaborative environment in our department where you will be supported by diverse experts in Optics and Metrology.
During your internship assignment, you may work on one or more of the topics below:
Apply your theoretical knowledge to optimize properties of optical systems and photonics;
Explore novel optical metrology concepts;
Investigate new light sources and detectors;
Develop analytical and/or numerical physical models to understand the behaviour of advanced light sources;
Design and conduct experiments, interpret results and communicate findings;
Support setup automations to enable efficient measurements;
Internships may be more theoretical (analytical / numerical) or experimental, depending on your preferences. You will work in a multidisciplinary team of experts with access to experimental setups, where theoretical insights can be explored in practice. During the internship, you may come up with improvements and new ideas for ASML.
Your Profile
To be a fit for an internship at ASML Research, you:
Have an affinity with either physical modelling and Fourier analysis or optical experiments and hardware control;
Have knowledge of programming languages such as Mathematica, MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW;
Are currently a Master's student in Physics, Optics or a related field;
Are a committed individual with effective problem-solving and communication skills;
Are advanced in spoken and written English.
The internships at ASML Research are intended for Master's apprentice or graduation (thesis) internships. The internships require a commitment of 4-5 days a week, with a typical duration of 5 to 12 months. The internship content, start date and duration can be discussed during the interview and/or adjusted based on your interests and needs. ASML provides internship compensation and if you receive an offer, you will be informed about it.
Eligibility requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes willingness to relocate;
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents required for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
