Introduction

Mechanical System Layout (MSL) manages the machine layout to enable the functionality and optimal engineering of lithography systems while considering build, transport, install and service requirements.

The team supports methods and processes to facilitate Tolerance Analysis and thus guarantee the functionality of a system after its assembly process. Possible issues could be: parts not fitting, machine damage due to collision of moving parts, insufficient range of adjustment of a mechanical assembly, sensors with insufficient range, etc.

Your assignment

During this assignment, you will investigate existing methods of doing Opto-Mechanical Tolerance Analysis within the company. Based on the investigation you will select or develop a method and further mature it into a process that can be used across the company. Ultimately, the analysis should run in available Software tools at ASML such as: Excel, Matlab, or similar.

Your tasks will include:

  • Define stakeholders, collect additional requirements and expectations, make your plan of approach;

  • Present pros and cons of the diferent methodologies and defend (review) the proposed method to implement;

  • Define a few representative case studies. Must contain a simple mechanical assembly with positioning features for a laser and reflective (or lens) elements;

  • Follow the Tolerence Analysis way of working, describing the purpose of the study and make a simplified sketch of the problem;

  • Make a mathematical model where the shift of the reflected or manipulated beam - often called Ray Tracing - is calculated including the mechanical tolerances of the assembly;

  • Discuss progress in our monthly Tolerance Analysis competence meeting and present the final study in a group (MSL) meeting;

  • Deliver the WoW procedure (How to use) the mathematical model;

  • Optional: Demonstrate that the model can be used on "all" use-cases.

This is a bachelor thesis or a master apprentice internship (to gain work experience) for a duration of 5-9 months months.The start date is asap, with latest starting date in September.

Your Profile

To be a perfect fit for this assignment, you:

  • Have background in Mechanical Engineering; Applied Physics, Optics & Photonics;

  • Are experienced in optics and mechanics;

  • Are comfortable with Mathematics, Analytical skills, Algebra, concepts in optics, Microsoft Excel and preferrably Matlab or equivalent;

  • Are methodic, collaborative, eager to face challenges, independent

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you ‘re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
