Introduction

ASML, the largest supplier for photolithography systems in the semiconductor industry, provides machines to chipmakers to enable mass production of chips on silicon wafers. ASML’s core strength is the lithography technology itself, while the building of the chipmakers is merely an assembly of parts provided by suppliers.

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for introducing new parts into the supplier base for ASML lithography systems. A key role of our department’s is ensuring that these parts are delivered with the requisite quality standards.

Your assignment

ASML makes designs for parts of our machine that are externally manufactured by our suppliers. These suppliers review our designs and give feedback on various aspects (correctness, manufacturability, testability, etc.).  Beside of correcting the design, this feedback is also used for the feedback-loop to our design community, for improving design quality. In order to do this effectively this feedback is categorized.
This categorization (or bucketing) is initially done by our suppliers, and later on corrected by the SQE, which takes a lot of effort. In order to reduce this effort, we want to investigate if this can be done or supported by AI.

Your assignment will focus on:

  • Applying Artificial Intelligence to categorize (bucket) the feedback raised by the supplier according to the fixed bucketing scheme as used in the review tool;

  • Applying AI to categorize the feedback inside each bucket, to indicate the common mistakes made;

  • Implementation will be done based on datasets in excel;

  • Reporting to show outcome;

This is an apprentice internship (to gain work experience) for minimum 6 months for 5 days per week. The start date is flexible (latest starting date Sept '25).
