Introduction

The Embedded Logic & Firmware (ELF) community develops digital designs and embedded systems for the ASML highest-resolution lithography systems. The purpose of the assignment is to develop a re-usable test framework for embedded systems in FPGAs, which includes a concept phase for the best test methodology for these systems.

Your assignment

Each power amplifier uses a control system to regulate its output power precisely at a certain level demanded by a positioning control system. As part of the design process of a control system, the performance of the control system is initially evaluated at a simulation level using representative simulation models. These models are also used for other purposes such as debugging, optimization and prediction. Typically, we would like these models to be as predictive and accurate as possible. Increasing the accuracy of these models, however, comes at the expense of additional complexity which causes the simulations to run slower. The assignment revolves around constructing an accurate but fast simulation model for three-phase power amplifiers by benefiting from powerful AI-oriented methods in system identification. Constructed from measurement data, such a model should particularly allow for fast and accurate simulations for various control scenarios.

Your assignment consists mainly of:

  • Learning how three-phase power amplifiers work;

  • Gaining deep understanding of the assignment and involved challenges;

  • Investigating the most recent developments in the area of data-based modelling for power amplifiers;

  • Developing an easy-to-use/train simulation model that can outperform the existing Simulink model in terms of accuracy and simulation time;

  • Investigating the potentials of the developed model in theory and practice against representative benchmark scenarios;

  • Actively networking and aligning with people in the group and beyond;

  • Regular progress reporting;

  • A final report where the results and findings are presented and discussed.

Your Profile

To be a perfect match for this internship, you:

  • Are a Master’s student in Electrical engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related filed;

  • Have background and interest in control and power electronics; and have experience/interest in data-based modeling, system identification and AI techniques;

  • Have experience with MATLAB programming and Simulink (Python programming is a plus);

  • You have strong English communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Have a proactive and hands-on mentality with high interested in high-tech industries.

This is a master graduation internship with a duration of a 5 to 9 months, for 4-5 days a week, starting as soon as possible.

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
