Introduction

The Development & Engineering (D&E) sector of ASML is responsible for the specification, design and realization of the products in the ASML portfolio. The Laser Light Positioning group is situated within the Electronic Development (EDEV) department in the sector. The team in Laser Light Positioning is working on the definition, realization, qualification and integration of electronic functions and modules.


Your assignment

With the aid of experienced designers and architects in the department, you will get familiar with the capabilities and functionalities of PLC codes. There are two assignments available, and you will have the opportunity to pick one depending on your interests.

Assignment 1 is about TwinCAT Unit Testing of PLC Codes. The goal of this assignment is to improve PLC code quality and make them more efficient. Your tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess the current PLC code project;

  • Come up with a strategy on how to introduce unit testing;

  • Create an automation layer to handle, execute and report on unit testing execution (e.g. Jenkins or similar);

  • Document your progress in a written report.


Assignment 2 is about Extension of Automated PLC Code Generation Tool. The goal of this assignment is to achieve cleaner and error-free codes that are generated by reviewed input sources. Your tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess the current PLC code project;

  • Come up with a strategy on how to implement the automatic code creation tool within the PLC project;

  • Test the features of the tool by means of C#, WPF (.NET);

  • Integrate the tool with the automation interface provided by Beckhoff;

  • Document your progress in a written report.

This is a graduation or an apprentice internship for 4-5 days a week with a duration of 5 to 12 months. The start date is as soon as possible.

Your profile

To be a perfect match for this internship, you:

  • Have a background in Electrical Engineering or in a related field;

  • Are skilled in Python and able to work with standardized PLC software;

  • Are capable of devising practical tests and interpreting data;

  • Are solution oriented and have a hands-on mentality;

  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be able to perform your internship. In case you ‘re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate. 

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
